Passenger killed after fleeing driver strikes utility pole on Boulevard SE
Georgia recorded 1,615 traffic death last year, and a high-speed pursuit has added to that toll. Timothy Favors, 19, was killed early Friday in a car accident in the 800 block of Boulevard SE in Atlanta, according to the State Patrol.
A white Infiniti Q50 fleeing an attempted traffic stop hit a raised pedestrian crossing at a high rate of speed, lost control, veered off the left side of the road, and struck a utility pole before catching fire in a residential yard.
Officers pulled the passenger from the burning wreckage, but he later died from his injuries at Grady Memorial Hospital.
The driver, identified as the other driver, was ejected during the impact and survived with serious injuries.
He remains in custody with multiple charges pending.
Investigators said the pursuit began just before 3 a.m. when police tried to stop the vehicle in connection with suspected break-ins, noting the driver is also a suspect in a 2024 homicide. The crash knocked out power for residents in the immediate area before fire crews extinguished the flames.
