Timothy Favors Killed in Atlanta Car Accident

Passenger killed after fleeing driver strikes utility pole on Boulevard SE
Georgia recorded 1,615 traffic death last year, and a high-speed pursuit has added to that toll. Timothy Favors, 19, was killed early Friday in a car accident in the 800 block of Boulevard SE in Atlanta, according to the State Patrol.
A white Infiniti Q50 fleeing an attempted traffic stop hit a raised pedestrian crossing at a high rate of speed, lost control, veered off the left side of the road, and struck a utility pole before catching fire in a residential yard.
Officers pulled the passenger from the burning wreckage, but he later died from his injuries at Grady Memorial Hospital.
The driver, identified as the other driver, was ejected during the impact and survived with serious injuries.
He remains in custody with multiple charges pending.
Investigators said the pursuit began just before 3 a.m. when police tried to stop the vehicle in connection with suspected break-ins, noting the driver is also a suspect in a 2024 homicide. The crash knocked out power for residents in the immediate area before fire crews extinguished the flames.
How do high-speed pursuits impact Atlanta road safety?
High-speed collisions often require complex accident reconstruction to determine vehicle velocity and trajectory. In car accidents such as this, safety analysts note that excessive speed significantly reduces a driver's ability to safely handle road features like raised crosswalks.
National Legal Analyst Stefano Formica, of Counsel at Bond Legal. "An attorney will carefully review what may have contributed to the crash and has the resources to hire expert witnesses, locate witnesses to the crash, and review applicable insurance coverage."
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, speeding is a primary factor in nearly one-third of all fatal traffic crashes nationwide. In Georgia, traffic data shows a 15 percent rise in injury-causing accidents over a recent five-year period.
What role did the raised pedestrian crossing play on Boulevard SE?
While law enforcement handles the criminal aspects of a fleeing driver, independent investigations often focus on the mechanics of the crash and the liability of the at-fault party. Investigators will examine the physical evidence at the scene, including tire marks and the point of impact at the utility pole, to establish the exact sequence of events that led to the fatal outcome.
Georgia wrongful death statute
Under O.C.G.A. § 51-4-1, surviving family members may file a wrongful death action. Georgia applies modified comparative fault (50% bar). The statute of limitations is 2 years.
Recoverable damages focus on the full value of the life of the decedent, including both economic and intangible losses.
