Allen Glazer Killed in Blythe Car Accident
Four-vehicle collision occurred in a construction zone west of Neighbors Boulevard
Allen Glazer, 62, of Buckeye, Arizona, was killed in a four-vehicle crash on Interstate 10 in Blythe on Sept. 7, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Paramedics rushed to the scene and transported the driver to Blythe Airport for an airlift, but he was pronounced dead before the flight. Three other people, including a passenger in the victim's vehicle, were flown to regional hospitals with undisclosed injuries.
The chain-reaction collision occurred around 4:15 p.m. west of Neighbors Boulevard. A Chevrolet Spark traveling at an unspecified speed rear-ended Glazer's Subaru Outback that was stopped in the left lane for a construction zone. The impact pushed the Subaru into a Ford Bronco, which then struck an Acura MDX.
Investigators do not believe alcohol was a factor.
The California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) reports the state had 4,061 traffic fatalities in 2023 (down nearly 11% from 4,539 in 2022). Caltrans research has documented that rear-end collisions are substantially more common in work zones than on general highways, with speeding a leading factor.

What is the status of the Blythe crash investigation?
Investigators continue to examine a crash site to determine exactly how fast the trailing vehicle was driving. Authorities are looking into whether distracted driving, excessive speed, or a failure to observe construction warning signs played a role in the collision.
California wrongful death statute
Under Cal. Code Civ. Proc. § 377.60, surviving family members may file a wrongful death action. California applies pure comparative fault. The statute of limitations is 2 years from the date of death.
Recoverable damages may include loss of financial support, loss of companionship, funeral expenses, and the decedent's pre-death pain and suffering.
