The northbound BMW traveled along Bruckner Boulevard, striking two parked vehicles before hitting the crossing motorcycle, investigators said. The suspect fled. The driver continued without stopping and struck another vehicle driven by a 38-year-old woman. Paramedics rushed the woman to a local hospital for treatment. Camero, who was operating the motorcycle, died from his injuries.

Police are searching for the BMW driver.

No arrests have been made as detectives continue to review evidence from the area.

How common are hit-and-run death in The Bronx?

Urban corridors with heavy traffic volume frequently see higher rates of drivers fleeing collision scenes. The sudden loss of a loved one in a hit-and-run leaves families grappling with deep grief and unanswered questions.

While investigators work to identify the BMW driver, securing evidence quickly is critical.

Candice Bond, managing partner at Bond Legal, said, "Identifying a driver who fled after causing serious harm can take weeks depending on witnesses, working cameras, and forensic clues left at a roadway. Every day without answers adds strain for loved ones wanting accountability."

"Serving as an advocate, an attorney works alongside investigators, reviews forensic findings, and pushes for updates so surviving relatives are not left waiting in silence," added Bond, who is also a national legal analyst for Accident News.

Hit-and-run crashes account for nearly a quarter of all traffic fatalities involving vulnerable road users nationwide, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

New York wrongful death statute

Under N.Y. EPTL § 5-4.1, surviving family members may file a wrongful death action. New York applies pure comparative fault. The statute of limitations is 2 years from the date of death.

Recoverable damages may include loss of financial support, loss of parental guidance, funeral expenses, and the decedent's conscious pain and suffering.

"When a driver flees the scene of a fatal crash, investigators focus on physical debris, paint transfers, and surrounding security cameras to identify the vehicle. Tracking down a fleeing driver requires rapid evidence collection," said Stefano Formica, of counsel at Bond Legal.

"Legal counsel assists surviving families by coordinating with law enforcement and exploring alternative insurance coverage options to ensure relatives receive financial support," added Bond, who is also a national legal analyst for Accident News.
