Tractor-trailer overturns onto stationary vehicle on Interstate 78
Ayesha Wright, 42, of Newark, was killed in a crash involving a tractor-trailer on Interstate 78 on Tuesday, according to the State Police.
A Mack tractor hauling a utility trailer was driving east in the local lanes when it approached a Chevrolet sedan stopped in traffic. The truck driver attempted to swerve to avoid the car but overturned onto the vehicle, investigators said. Wright, who was driving the sedan, and a 25-year-old passenger were pronounced dead at the scene.
The truck driver suffered minor injuries.
The crash occurred near milepost 56.8 around 9:08 a.m., forcing lane closures and significant delays throughout the morning.
According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), 5,340 people died in crashes involving large trucks in the United States in 2024. This was a decrease from 5,478 in 2023
