Brandon Webb, 32, was killed in a pedestrian crash on Texas 114 near the Northwest ISD football stadium early Sunday, according to the Fort Worth Police Department.‌‍‌‌‍‍‌‌‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‍‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‌‍‍‌‌‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‍‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‌‍‍‌‌‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‍‍‌‍‍

First responders arrived to find the victim in the eastbound lanes after an unknown vehicle struck him with its front-driver side and fled the scene without stopping. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office pronounced Webb dead at the site of the collision.

Detectives are actively searching for the driver responsible for the fatal strike. No arrests have been announced, and authorities have not released a description of the suspect vehicle.

The crash remains under investigation.

In pedestrian accidents such as this, securing debris, surveillance footage, and witness accounts is vital before the scene degrades.

Candice Bond, managing partner at Bond Legal, said, "Investigating a fatal pedestrian crash means moving fast, since surveillance footage gets overwritten and skid marks fade within a few days of any collision happening on a public road. Witness memories shift quickly too, softening details that once felt sharp and certain."

"Legal counsel sends preservation letters immediately, locking down footage and physical evidence before anything gets lost to time," added Bond, who is also a national legal analyst for Accident News.

What legal avenues exist for the victim's family?

Families facing the sudden loss of a loved one in a hit-and-run often endure immense grief while waiting for criminal justice. However, civil claims can proceed alongside or even in the absence of criminal charges, particularly through uninsured drivers coverage if the driver remains unidentified.

While law enforcement focuses on criminal prosecution for the hit-and-run offense, civil attorneys focus on securing financial stability for the surviving estate. Individuals involved in pedestrian accidents may have legal options.

According to the Texas Department of Transportation, there were 6,095 crashes involving pedestrians in 2024, resulting in 772 pedestrian deaths and 1,455 serious injuries.

Texas wrongful death statute

Under Tex. Civ. Prac. & Rem. Code § 71.001, surviving family members may file a wrongful death action. Texas applies modified comparative fault (51% bar). The statute of limitations is 2 years.

Recoverable damages may include loss of financial support, loss of companionship and consortium, funeral expenses, and mental anguish.

"Distracted driving and driver impairment are critical focus areas when examining why a motorist failed to spot a pedestrian in time. Investigators review cell phone activity, onboard digital logs, and toxicology results to uncover what compromised driver awareness," said Stefano Formica, of counsel at Bond Legal.

Formica, who is also a national legal analyst for Accident News, noted, "Experienced legal counsel helps affected families by subpoenaing phone carrier records and toxicological data to establish a clear timeline of driver distraction or intoxication."
