Speed and alcohol suspected in Mount Everett Road collision

Brendon Nichols, 31, of Youngstown, was killed in a single-vehicle crash on Mount Everett Road in Hubbard Township on Tuesday, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.‍‍‍‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‍‍‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‍‍‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‍‍‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‍‍‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‍‍‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‍

An eastbound 2021 Dodge Ram veered off the left side of the pavement and struck several trees before rolling to a stop. Investigators noted the pickup truck sustained heavy damage during the sequence.

Nichols, a passenger, was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. Two juvenile brothers riding in the truck were also involved, though their conditions were not immediately released.

Authorities said the 20-year-old driver survived the wreck. Troopers suspect speed and alcohol played a role in the collision.

Troopers from the Warren post continue to investigate the crash.

How common are fatal crashes in Trumbull County?

While the specific circumstances of the Mount Everett Road crash remain under investigation, local data shows rural corridors frequently experience severe collisions. In fatal accidents such as this, crash reconstruction investigators often examine tire marks, vehicle telemetry, and toxicology reports to build a complete timeline.

Candice Bond, managing partner at Bond Legal, who is also a national legal analyst for Accident News, said, "Passenger fatalities frequently occur during single-vehicle rollover crashes involving roadway departures and heavy impacts with fixed roadside objects." Serving as an advocate, an attorney may preserve electronic data, coordinate forensic reconstruction, and guide surviving relatives through insurance disputes and investigative complexities.

According to Stefano Formica, a national legal analyst for Accident News and of counsel at Bond Legal, "We understand just what families are forced to go through, and having their rights protected is vital. A wrongful death lawyer will stay updated on the official investigation and help ensure that their best interests are taken care of."

"Relatives of wrongful death victims are entitled to seek damages for the loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a tragic or catastrophic accident."

Statewide statistics underscore the dangers of impaired driving, particularly among underage drivers. According to the Ohio Department of Public Safety, nearly 90% of traffic fatalities across the state are linked to human error, including alcohol use and excessive speed, and the lack of seatbelt use further increases the severity of rural roadway departures.

Ohio wrongful death statute

Under Ohio Rev. Code § 2125.01, surviving family members may file a wrongful death action. Ohio applies modified comparative fault (51% bar). The statute of limitations is 2 years.

Recoverable damages may include loss of financial support, loss of services and companionship, funeral expenses, and the estate's losses.
