Charles Bunnel Killed in St. Louis Pedestrian Accident

The 10-year-old boy was struck by a pick-up truck near Cinnabar Drive on Sunday night
Charles Bunnel, 10, of Sappington, died in a pedestrian crash on Gravois Road near Cinnabar Drive in St. Louis County on Sunday, according to the St. Louis County Police Department.
Officers from the Affton Southwest Precinct arrived just before 10:30 p.m. to find the child suffering from serious injuries in the eastbound lanes. The child was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later died.
Preliminary reports indicate the boy ran into the road before being struck by a pick-up truck. The driver of the truck called 911 after the collision and is cooperating with investigators.
The crash remains under active investigation by detectives. Authorities are asking anyone with information about the collision to contact the department at 636-529-8210.
While preliminary reports suggest the child entered the road, crash reconstructionists thoroughly examine all factors, including driver speed, lighting, and reaction time.
"Here's what walkers don't understand about the forgiveness zone that engineers can build into city streets. Better sight triangles give drivers more time to react, but we don't see them used in enough neighborhoods," said Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal.
The loss of a child is a deep tragedy for any family, and understanding the exact sequence of events requires careful analysis of the vehicle's dynamics.
"A pedestrian's death on a neighborhood street is a trauma that shakes every neighbor. What car drivers don't realize is that being hit at forty miles per hour carries an eighty-five percent chance of being fatal," said Stefano Formica, Of Bond Legal
National data shows how serious these incidents are. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, pedestrians accounted for approximately 18% of all traffic deaths in recent years, with much occurring at night.
