Chelsea Miller Killed in Perry Township Car Accident

The two-vehicle collision occurred near mile post 11 in Columbiana County
Chelsea Miller, 35, of Lisbon, was killed in a head-on car accident on State Route 173 in Perry Township, Columbiana County, Ohio, on Tuesday, April 14, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Emergency crews from multiple agencies, including fire departments from Perry Township, Damascus, and Salem, responded to the scene near mile marker 11 at approximately 2:40 p.m. Investigators determined a 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee crossed the center line and struck a 2013 Nissan Rogue.
Paramedics transported the driver of the Nissan to Salem Regional Medical Center, where she died from her injuries. The driver of the Jeep, a 78-year-old Salem woman, was taken to a different hospital with serious injuries.
Both lanes of the highway were temporarily shut down while crews responded. The crash remains under investigation, and no charges have been announced.
Why did the Jeep cross the center line on State Route 173?
While the cause of the collision remains under investigation, authorities will likely examine factors such as distracted driving, medical emergencies, or vehicle malfunction. Stefano Formica, Of Bond Legal, noted that "Head-on car accidents often require extensive reconstruction to determine why a driver drifted out of their lane, including a review of phone records, toxicology reports, and event data recorders."
According to the Ohio Department of Public Safety, head-on collisions account for a disproportionate number of traffic deaths statewide due to the combined force of two vehicles traveling in opposite directions.
What are the next steps for the victim's family?
Families who lose a loved one in a sudden crash are often overwhelmed by immediate funeral costs and sudden loss of income, while insurance adjusters begin building their defense within hours. Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal, noted that "In fatal car accidents, having an independent investigation conducted quickly is crucial to preserve evidence, interview witnesses, and ensure the family's rights are protected against challenging insurance tactics."
The sudden loss of Miller leaves her family managing a complex legal and emotional framework after the crash.
Ohio wrongful death statute
Families pursuing these claims may seek damages for funeral and burial expenses, loss of the deceased's expected earning capacity, and loss of companionship or consortium. The statute of limitations for filing a wrongful death lawsuit in Ohio is generally two years from the date of the victim's death. Prompt legal consultation can help families handle probate court requirements and ensure all filing deadlines are met.
