David Jordan Killed in Clinton County Pedestrian Accident
The off-duty New Baden police officer was struck and killed on Wesclin Road Tuesday
David Jordan, 59, was killed in a pedestrian crash in Clinton County on Tuesday, according to the Sheriff's Office.
The northbound vehicle struck the off-duty police officer on Wesclin Road. Emergency crews arrived to find the victim suffering from severe head and chest trauma. They immediately began providing aid at the scene before transporting him to a local hospital. He later died from his injuries.
Sheriff Dan Travous stated there is no evidence the pedestrian did anything to cause the collision. Investigators have not announced if the driver will face criminal charges.
The victim had served as an officer with the New Baden Police Department since 2019.
The 219 fatal pedestrian collisions reported statewide in 2024 represent a nearly 10% increase from the previous year, according to Illinois Department of Transportation data.
