Oklahoma has seen a rise in pedestrian death, with 96 deaths reported statewide in 2022, according to the Oklahoma Highway Safety Office. Elias Vasquez-Salazar, 77, became part of that toll when he was struck and killed by a vehicle while working in a construction zone on State Highway 152 near Minco on Sept. 4, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol said.
The vehicle hit the worker as the crew operated along the highway shoulder, investigators reported. The driver of the vehicle was not injured in the collision.
