Hunter Smith, 7, of Gibbstown, was killed in a school bus crash on Bennett Street near Ashton Drive in Gibbstown, New Jersey, on Friday, according to the Greenwich Township Police Department.
The child was struck by a Holcomb Bus Company vehicle shortly after disembarking at approximately 3:40 p.m. Officers and nearby residents provided immediate emergency medical care at the scene before paramedics arrived.
The boy was taken to Cooper University Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
The Greenwich Township Police Detective Unit is investigating the collision. No charges have been announced against the driver.
Holcomb Bus stated it is cooperating with authorities and conducting an internal review. The Greenwich Township School District has made mental health professionals and therapy dogs available for students and staff at district schools.
