Jonathan Garcia Killed in Lubbock Golf Cart Accident

18-year-old passenger ejected during turn at Avenue K and 2nd Street
As off-highway vehicle death continue to rise across Texas, an 18-year-old man died Thursday from injuries suffered in a golf cart crash earlier in the week at the corner of 2nd Street and Avenue K in Lubbock, according to the Lubbock Police Department.
The northbound cart was making a westbound turn when a passenger was ejected from the vehicle onto the road. The driver and a second passenger were not injured in the crash.
Paramedics transported Jonathan Garcia to University Medical Center with severe trauma following the Tuesday night crash. He succumbed to his injuries two days later.
Investigators are reviewing the circumstances of the turn, a critical factor as Consumer Federation of America data shows 65% of recent off-highway vehicle death occurred on paved roads where such vehicles lack standard safety features.
No charges have been announced as police continue their inquiry.
