Kenneth Stiltner Killed in Charlotte Bicycle Accident
The 53-year-old cyclist was struck head-on by an SUV in the westbound lane of Albemarle Road
Kenneth Stiltner, 53, was killed in a bicycle crash on Albemarle Road near Hollirose Drive in Charlotte, North Carolina, on July 31, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.
The westbound cyclist was struck head-on by a GMC Acadia at approximately 4:50 a.m., throwing him from the bike. Paramedics found the man lying in the street with life-threatening injuries. He was taken to a local hospital, where he died on Aug. 11.
The SUV sustained front-end damage in the collision.
No charges have been filed as the investigation continues.

Investigators are working to determine the exact sequence of events that led to the head-on impact. Factors such as the early morning darkness and the SUV driver's speed and visibility will be heavily scrutinized.

Under N.C. Gen. Stat. § 28A-18-2, surviving family members may file a wrongful death action. North Carolina applies contributory negligence. The statute of limitations is 2 years.
Recoverable damages may include loss of financial support, loss of services and companionship, funeral expenses, and the estate's losses.
