Pedestrian death in Ohio have reached alarming levels, with preliminary state data showing over 850 pedestrian deaths in the last five years. Adding to that toll, Kevin Fuller, 36, of Lafayette, Arkansas, was killed in a pedestrian accident on State Route 125 in Union Township, Clermont County, on Tuesday, April 21, according to the State Highway Patrol.‌‌‌‍‍‍‌‍‌‌‍‍‍‍‌‌‍‌‍‍‍‌‌‍‍‌‍‍‌‌

The evening collision occurred in the center of the road. At approximately 6:22 p.m., an eastbound 2024 Tesla Model Y struck the victim while he was conducting survey work in the two-way left-turn lane, investigators said.

Fuller died instantly. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Clermont County Coroner's Office.

The 19-year-old driver of the Tesla suffered minor injuries and was transported by Union Township EMS to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center.

How does this tragedy impact the local community?

When a worker is struck and killed on a busy commercial corridor like State Route 125, it highlights the inherent vulnerabilities pedestrians face in shared traffic spaces. National LNational Legal Analyst Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal, noted that "In pedestrian accidents, it's incredibly difficult to recover from a crash when the intersection design didn't give you a fair chance to be seen. Engineers call it the forgiveness zone, and it's what keeps a minor error from being a serious injury."

What happens next in the OSHP investigation?

As troopers from the Batavia Post reconstruct the collision, they will examine the Tesla's event data recorder, the driver's speed, and the visibility of the survey work zone. Investigators must determine why the vehicle entered the center turn lane and whether distracted driving or glare played a role in the fatal impact.
