Logan Epperson Killed in Lee's Summit Hit-and-Run Accident

Investigators search for driver who fled the scene on U.S. 40 Highway early Sunday morning
Logan Epperson, 20, was killed in a hit-and-run crash on U.S. 40 Highway near Powell Avenue in Lee's Summit early Sunday, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
Investigators currently have no vehicle description, no witnesses and no surveillance footage of the collision. Troopers believe the pedestrian was walking eastbound in the westbound lanes when an unknown driver struck him and fled the scene.
A passing drivers eventually discovered the victim and called for help. Paramedics pronounced the man, Epperson, dead at the site.
Home security cameras captured the man leaving his residence at 3:15 a.m. Authorities estimate the collision occurred between 3:20 a.m. and 4:30 a.m.
Friends and family have established a growing memorial at the crash site bearing the message "Long Live Logan." Loved ones also launched a fundraiser to assist with funeral expenses as they plead for the driver to come forward.
The sudden loss of a young life leaves families and communities grappling with deep grief and unanswered questions. As friends gather at roadside memorials to honor victims like Epperson, the search for the fleeing driver becomes a critical focus for both law enforcement and legal advocates.
Candice Bond, managing partner at Bond Legal, said, said, "Uninsured motorist coverage becomes critically important after serious hit-and-run collisions, particularly when a fleeing driver is never identified and no responsible party can be held directly accountable through traditional civil claims. Many surviving relatives are unaware that personal insurance policies may provide meaningful financial recovery in precisely those situations."
An attorney can evaluate all available coverage, challenge bad-faith denial practices, and ensure affected families receive every benefit available under existing policies, added Bond, who is also a national legal analyst for Accident News.
Why are there no witness reports from U.S. 40 Highway?
While police work to identify the suspect vehicle, families often face immediate financial burdens, including funeral costs that prompt community fundraisers.
"Separate from any criminal investigation, affected families may have options to pursue compensation through the civil justice system following a serious or fatal collision," noted Stefano Formica, a national legal analyst for Accident News and of counsel at Bond Legal.
How is the Lee's Summit community responding?
