One dead and two drivers injured after three-vehicle collision at Scheid and Huron-Avery roads

The collision occurred around 11:15 a.m. An eastbound Honda CR-V entered the intersection and was struck by a southbound Jeep Grand Cherokee, investigators said. The impact pushed the Honda into the path of a northbound Lincoln MKZ, which then struck the Honda.

Guillen, who was riding in the front seat of the Honda, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Honda's driver suffered serious injuries, while the Lincoln's driver suffered minor injuries. Paramedics transported both men to Firelands Regional Medical Center for treatment. The 18-year-old driver of the Jeep declined medical transport for minor injuries.

Troopers closed the intersection for approximately two hours to clear the wreckage.

No charges have been filed as the investigation continues.

What happens next in the Milan Township investigation?

The sudden loss of a loved one in a multi-vehicle collision leaves families grappling with deep grief and searching for answers. Victims like Guillen are killed in motor vehicle accidents across our country, and it is often not their fault.

As the Milan Township community processes the tragedy, investigators will careful examine the corner of Scheid and Huron-Avery roads to determine right-of-way and fault.

Candice Bond, managing partner at Bond Legal, said, "Fatal collisions involving three or four vehicles create investigative headaches immediately after impact. Determining exact speeds, points of contact, and driver behavior takes patience and careful review of available detail."

"An attorney coordinates with accident reconstruction specialists, examines toxicology results, and works through insurance disputes so surviving relatives are not left carrying every burden alone," added Bond, who is also a national legal analyst for Accident News.

How do authorities determine liability in a three-vehicle crash?

Multi-vehicle collisions require complex reconstruction to understand the exact sequence of impacts. Troopers will review skid marks, vehicle damage, and potential witness statements to piece together the events leading up to the fatal strike. As part of standard procedure in fatal collisions, investigators routinely screen all involved drivers for potential impairment or distraction.

According to the Ohio Department of Public Safety, the state recorded 1,157 traffic death in 2024, with intersection collisions representing much of severe multi-vehicle crashes.

Ohio wrongful death statute

Under Ohio Rev. Code § 2125.01, surviving family members may file a wrongful death action. Ohio applies modified comparative fault (51% bar). The statute of limitations is 2 years.

Recoverable damages may include loss of financial support, loss of services and companionship, funeral expenses, and the estate's losses.

"Serving as an advocate, an attorney gathers medical records, financial documentation, and expert opinions to support grieving families facing emotional and practical hardship in the months following tragedy," noted Stefano Formica, a national legal analyst for Accident News and of counsel at Bond Legal.
