Two people died in the multi-vehicle wreck on I-75 northbound near Hickory Grove Road.
Royan Osborne, 42, of Norcross, was killed in a multi-vehicle commercial vehicle accident on Interstate 75 northbound near Hickory Grove Road in Cobb County, Georgia, on Friday, September 13, 2024, according to the Cobb County Medical Examiner. The incident, which involved three commercial vehicles, happened around 8:34 a.m.
Investigators said a red 2023 Freightliner Cascadia semi-truck, driven by 28-year-old Zory Beavers of Conyers, was driving north in the right lane. Beavers drifted out of his lane and struck a white 2019 Freightliner Cascadia driven by 62-year-old Verlon Henley of Fairburn, who was in the lane to the left. The truck then spun clockwise, rolled onto its left side, and hit a concrete sound wall on the right shoulder.
A white 2018 Ram 3500 pickup with a flatbed trailer, driven by 48-year-old Arkino Walker of White, then struck the rear of Beavers' trailer. The pickup stopped sideways across the northbound lanes. Beavers and Osborne, who was a passenger in the semi-truck, died at the scene. Henley and Walker were not hurt.
The wreck blocked northbound lanes of I-75 in Cobb County during the morning commute. The crash remains under investigation by authorities.

"What scares me about large commercial rigs is how one small mistake can lead to a massive loss of life," said Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal. "If cargo isn't secured right, a waterfall event happens where the shifting weight flips the entire trailer over."
The investigation into the I-75 crash will examine various elements related to the semi-trucks involved. Authorities will likely look at driver actions, vehicle condition, and road factors.
