Montecito man faces felony charges after rear-end collision at State and Cota streets

Ryan A. Hill, 50, of Montecito, was arrested on suspicion of felony drunken driving and hit-and-run after a crash in downtown Santa Barbara on Friday night, police said. The crash happened near State and Cota streets. The crash occurred at about 9:45 p.m. when a white pickup truck, traveling west on Cota Street, hit the back of two cars stopped at a traffic light. The driver then left the truck and ran north through the 600 block of State Street. A witness, an employee from a nearby restaurant, chased the man and held him on East Ortega Street until officers arrived, police said. One driver in the crash suffered minor injuries and was taken by ambulance to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital, police said. A second person at the scene also complained of pain but did not go to the hospital. Hill was booked into the Santa Barbara County Jail, police said. His bail was set at $100,000. Detectives are processing the scene and interviewing witnesses, police said. The white pickup remained at the intersection for several hours while investigators documented damage and collected evidence, police said.
