Salvador Olivas Killed in Coachella Motorcycle Accident
The 55-year-old died following a crash at the intersection of Avenue 54 and Tyler Street
Salvador Olivas, a 55-year-old Thermal man, was killed in a motorcycle crash on Avenue 54 near Tyler Street in Coachella, California, on Sept. 4, according to the Riverside County Sheriff's Office.
The two-lane intersection was dark around 5 a.m. when the motorcycle being operated by Olivas and a passenger car collided. The driver of the car remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. Deputies attempted life-saving measures. Paramedics then rushed Olivas to John F. Kennedy Memorial Hospital in Indio in critical condition, where he later died.
Authorities do not suspect drug or alcohol impairment played a role in the crash. The intersection was closed for several hours while deputies examined the wreckage.
According to the California Office of Traffic Safety, 583 motorcyclists were killed statewide in 2023, representing 14% of all traffic fatalities.
