Siddharth Shrestha Killed in Culver City crash

The fatal collision occurred on the southbound San Diego (405) Freeway
Siddharth Shrestha, 20, was killed in a crash on the San Diego (405) Freeway south of Palms Boulevard in Culver City late Friday, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The crash remains under investigation by the CHP as officers work to determine the exact sequence of events. The collision involved the motorcycle and an unknown number of other vehicles in the southbound lanes. Emergency crews responded to the scene at approximately 11:50 p.m. Shrestha was pronounced dead following the collision, according to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner.
No other injuries were reported among the people in the other vehicles.
The crash forced the closure of the southbound freeway lanes for several hours during the initial response and evidence collection. All lanes were reopened by 2:23 a.m. Saturday.
What factors are investigators examining on the 405 Freeway?
While the cause and liability of a crash are being investigated, it is important that a competent attorney handles investigations into cases such as this to ensure the rights of the victim's family are protected.
The sudden loss of a loved one leaves families searching for answers, especially when multiple vehicles are involved on a major interstate.
Candice Bond, managing partner at Bond Legal, said "Early evidence gathering is the most critical part of understanding a tragic roadway loss, as witnesses move away and vehicles get repaired or scrapped."
"Serving as an advocate, an attorney works quickly to interview eyewitnesses, preserve cell phone records, examine roadway design, and protect surviving families from unfair settlement offers made before the full financial impact is known," added Bond, who is also a national legal analyst for Accident News.
Why do multi-vehicle crashes occur on the San Diego Freeway?
Freeway collisions involving motorcycles and multiple vehicles often require extensive forensic analysis to determine the initial point of impact. Investigators look at skid marks, vehicle damage, and witness statements to piece together the sequence of events.
California wrongful death statute
Under Cal. Code Civ. Proc. § 377.60, surviving family members may file a wrongful death action. California applies pure comparative fault. The statute of limitations is 2 years from the date of death.
Recoverable damages may include loss of financial support, loss of companionship, funeral expenses, and the decedent's pre-death pain and suffering.
"Investigating a fatal crash requires immediate action because perishable evidence like skid marks, vehicle telemetry data, and video footage can vanish within days," said Stefano Formica, of counsel at Bond Legal.
Formica, who is also a national legal analyst for Accident News, noted, "To build a complete factual record after a tragic loss of life, an attorney coordinates with forensic accident reconstructionists, interviews responding officers, and secures commercial surveillance video to protect surviving relatives from unfair liability denials."
