Two Drivers, Child Injured in Walnut Township Car Accident

The two-vehicle collision occurred on Walnut Creek Pike near 13788 Walnut Creek Road
A 49-year-old Ashville man was injured in a head-on car accident on Walnut Creek Pike near Walnut Creek Road in Walnut Township, Pickaway County, Ohio, on Thursday, April 9, according to the Pickaway County Sheriff's Office.
Investigators say a southbound Ford F-150 crossed the center line and struck a northbound Chevrolet Silverado. The collision caused disabling damage to both pickups, forcing crews to close the road for approximately 30 minutes.
Medivac transported the Ashville man and the 50-year-old driver of the Silverado to Grant Medical Center in Columbus for treatment. A 5-year-old passenger in the Ford was taken by Circleville EMS to Nationwide Children's Hospital.
The crash remains under investigation. Deputies noted the weather was clear and the road was dry at the time of the morning wreck.
Why did the pickup cross the center line on Walnut Creek Pike?
The sudden impact of a head-on collision leaves victims facing severe injuries and long recoveries. While the Pickaway County Sheriff's Office continues to investigate why the Ford drifted into the northbound lane, independent crash reconstruction is often necessary to uncover the full sequence of events.
"What most people miss about car data is the depth of the black box. It captures five seconds of steering and braking data so it's clear if safety systems didn't work," said Stefano Formica, Of Bond Legal
What factors do investigators examine in head-on collisions?
According to the Ohio Department of Public Safety, the state recorded 109,872 motor vehicle crashes and 46,780 injuries in 2023. Rural two-lane roads like Walnut Creek Pike frequently see severe collisions when vehicles leave their designated travel lanes.
Understanding the mechanics of the crash is just the first step for those recovering from serious injuries.
"The speed differential between two vehicles is actually the strongest predictor of the severity of the injuries suffered," said Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal.
