William Smart, 74, was killed in a pedestrian crash near the corner of Ross Clark Circle and Third Avenue in Dothan, Alabama, early Friday, according to Dothan Police.
The 5:30 a.m. collision involved a silver truck that struck Smart as he was walking. Houston County Coroner Robert Byrd pronounced the victim dead at the scene, noting he died on impact.
Investigators have not released details regarding the driver of the truck or what led to the collision. No charges have been announced as the investigation continues.
According to the Alabama Department of Transportation, the state recorded 120 pedestrian deaths in 2024, highlighting ongoing risks for people walking near busy roadways.
