Xavier Richardson, 33, of Wilmington, was killed in a pedestrian crash on Market Street in Wilmington, North Carolina, late Friday, according to the Wilmington Police Department.
An SUV struck Richardson in the 3500 block of the road just before 11 p.m. He was pronounced dead following the collision. Investigators have not released the name of the driver or announced any pending charges.
The fatal collision occurred during a busy holiday weekend and marks one of two pedestrian deaths in the city over a span of days, prompting renewed discussions among city officials regarding the Vision Zero safety initiative.
