1 Killed, 2 Injured in Socorro Car Accident
A 63-year-old driver died and two people, including a 1-year-old, were hurt when three vehicles collided at North Loop Drive and Bauman Road Tuesday morning.
A 63-year-old woman died and two other people were hurt after three vehicles collided on North Loop Drive in Socorro on October 20, the Socorro Police Department said. Police identified the driver who died as Ada Laura Rodriguez, 63.
How the North Loop Drive Crash Unfolded
Socorro officers responded at about 10:20 a.m. Tuesday to the 11400 block of North Loop Drive, where the crash happened at Bauman Road. Rodriguez was stopped in the westbound lanes, waiting to turn left onto Bauman, when a car heading the same direction, with a 21-year-old woman at the wheel, hit her from behind, police said. Police said that collision pushed her car into the eastbound lanes, where a car driven by a 26-year-old woman struck it. Emergency crews gave Rodriguez CPR before she was taken to a local hospital, where she died. The 26-year-old and a 1-year-old riding with her were taken to a hospital with injuries police believe are not life-threatening, and the 21-year-old reported no injuries.
What the Sister Cities Investigation Involves
The Sister Cities Major Crimes Unit, a joint team from the Socorro and Horizon City police departments, is investigating with Special Traffic Investigations personnel. Police closed the stretch of North Loop Drive from Barnhart Drive to Sunset Valley Avenue while investigators worked the scene. No charges have been announced, and police said they will release more details as the investigation continues.
People often hear very little from investigators in the first days after a crash. That quiet is normal while evidence is gathered, and it does not mean the case has stalled.

Here is what families in Texas usually need, in the order it comes up.
Death certificates. The funeral home or the family can order them, and banks and insurers each usually want a copy.
Crash report. The crash report is usually ready a few weeks after the crash, and you can still get it later.
Funeral costs. Every state has a victim fund that pays funeral costs after some crashes, and the fund decides who qualifies.
Survivor payments. If the person who died had worked, their spouse or children may get monthly Social Security payments. Applying early matters.
Insurance offer. You can turn down the insurer's first offer and ask for more.
