Alejandro Rodriguez-Zetina Arrested in Vallejo Hit-and-Run

The 20-year-old driver faces multiple charges after a pedestrian was critically injured in a parking lot on Santa Clara Street
A woman was critically injured in a hit-and-run crash in a parking lot in the 400 block of Santa Clara Street in Vallejo, California, on July 4, according to the Vallejo Police Department.
Officers arrested Alejandro Rodriguez-Zetina, 20, the following day. He faces charges of felony hit-and-run causing injury, reckless driving and engaging in an exhibition of speed that resulted in bodily injury.
Emergency medical personnel treated the victim at the scene before she was taken to a local hospital. She remains hospitalized in critical condition.
Investigators identified the suspect through witness interviews and video evidence. Authorities noted that alcohol or controlled substances do not appear to have been a factor in the collision.
The crash remains under investigation.
When a driver faces felony charges for fleeing a scene, the criminal proceedings often run parallel to civil claims. While police handle the criminal prosecution, injured pedestrians and their families must handle the civil justice system to address mounting medical bills and long-term care needs.
Candice Bond, managing partner at Bond Legal, said, "Surveillance footage and digital evidence have become essential tools in hit-and-run cases, capturing details no witness could describe from memory alone. Traffic cameras, doorbell systems, and business recordings hold clues before footage gets deleted or overwritten within days."
"An attorney moves to secure and preserve material, building a factual foundation to support injured individuals pursuing accountability and insurance recovery," added Bond, who is also a national legal analyst for Accident News.
How do criminal charges impact a civil claim in Vallejo?
California sees a high rate of hit-and-run collisions, with state data showing these incidents account for roughly 11% of all fatal crashes.
What evidence is used to prove negligence in parking lot collisions?
Video surveillance and witness statements are vital in establishing liability when a driver engages in an exhibition of speed. Individuals injured in hit-and-run accidents may have legal options. Consulting a personal injury attorney can help clarify rights and potential claims.
California personal injury framework
California follows a pure comparative fault system. Injured parties may recover damages reduced by their percentage of fault. The statute of limitations is 2 years from the date of the crash.
Damages include economic losses (medical bills, lost income, rehabilitation) and non-economic losses (pain, suffering, emotional distress).
"Identifying a fleeing driver after causing serious harm often takes patient work involving traffic cameras, surveillance footage, and witness interviews. A legal team can coordinate with investigators, review forensic findings, and push for accountability while protecting surviving relatives from hardship," noted Stefano Formica, a national legal analyst for Accident News and of counsel at Bond Legal.
