Minnesota man arrested for suspected OWI after pickup truck vaults off Interstate 94
Anna Melicher, 27, of Eveleth, Minnesota, was killed in a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 94 near Eau Claire on June 29, according to the Wisconsin State Patrol.
Troopers arrested the 28-year-old driver, Cyrus Muehlberg of Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, on suspicion of first-offense operating while intoxicated after noticing signs of impairment at the scene. The eastbound pickup truck drifted off the road, vaulted, and stopped in the median at approximately 10:31 p.m.
Melicher, a back-seat passenger in the pickup, died from her injuries.
Muehlberg was taken to Mayo Hospital in Eau Claire with non-life-threatening injuries, while a second passenger, a 29-year-old man, was not hurt.
The State Patrol continues to investigate the fatal wreck.
Township Fire Department, Eau Claire Fire Department, and the Eau Claire County Medical Examiner's Office assisted at the scene.
