Bailee Deems Killed in Stringtown Truck Accident

Box truck forces vehicle across center divider on U.S. Highway 69
Bailee Deems, 18, of Stringtown, was killed in a commercial truck accident on U.S. Highway 69 near Fred’s Fish Camp Road in Stringtown, Oklahoma, on Sunday, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.
A box truck struck the southbound vehicle, forcing it across the center divider and into the opposing lanes of traffic.
Stringtown firefighters used the Jaws of Life to extricate the driver from the wreckage.
Paramedics took her to Atoka County Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.
The Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. No further details have been released.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 762 people died in traffic crashes across Oklahoma in 2021.
While the exact circumstances remain under investigation, weather-related factors frequently complicate commercial vehicle operation on rural highways. Heavy rain, fog, or slick roads can drastically increase the stopping distance required for a box truck, leaving drivers with little time to react to changing traffic patterns.
