Bicyclist Killed in Medford Delivery Truck Accident

The fatal collision occurred on the sidewalk along McAndrews Road near Poplar Drive
A 65-year-old resident died in a bicycle accident involving a commercial delivery truck on McAndrews Road near Poplar Drive in Medford, Oregon, on Friday, April 10.
According to the Medford Police Department, investigators are examining the parking lot exit where the collision occurred. No citations have been issued.
The westbound cyclist was riding on the south sidewalk. The truck driver had stopped while preparing to turn eastbound, striking the victim directly on the sidewalk at the entrance.
The collision trapped the cyclist under the vehicle. Rescue crews from the Medford Fire Department and Mercy Flights extricated them.
Paramedics transported the patient to a local hospital, where they later died.
Police said speed was not a factor. Authorities are withholding the victim's identity.
The death of a local resident on a busy city sidewalk highlights the severe risks pedestrians and cyclists face near commercial driveways. While the Medford Police Department continues its investigation, independent analysis is often necessary to understand how a commercial vehicle failed to yield to sidewalk traffic.
National Legal Analyst Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal, noted that "Losing a cyclist to a right hook collision is a heartbreak that’s becoming far too common. This happens when a car turns right across the bike lane, and it’s the number one fatal pattern for those on bikes."
Commercial fleet operators, such as delivery services, are subject to strict safety protocols and corporate liability standards. The McAndrews Road incident will likely require a thorough review of the driver's training records and the truck's onboard telematics.
National Legal Analyst Stefano Formica, Of Bond Legal, observed that "When a family loses a loved one on the road, the world feels like it has come to a stop. Black box data is often the only way to know if a driver was braking in those final five seconds before the impact."
