Brian Segura Killed in Selma Pedestrian Accident

Brian Segura, 28, of Homestead Drive, Selma, died in a pedestrian accident on Buffalo Road near Live Oak Church Road early Sunday morning, according to the State Highway Patrol. The fatal collision occurred around 6:31 a.m.
Segura was lying motionless in the southbound travel lane of Buffalo Road when he was struck by a passenger vehicle traveling in the same direction. The driver of the vehicle and an independent witness remained at the scene and cooperated fully with authorities. Segura died at the scene and was taken to the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Raleigh for an autopsy. The Highway Patrol said there were no contributing factors for the driver and no charges were filed.

The primary goal is to establish a complete picture of the moments leading up to the crash." The State Highway Patrol will also review any available surveillance footage or witness statements.
Under N.C. Gen. Stat. § 28A-18-2, surviving family members may file a wrongful death action. North Carolina applies contributory negligence.
The statute of limitations is 2 years. Recoverable damages may include loss of financial support, loss of services and companionship, funeral expenses, and the estate's losses.
