Chrystelle Delong Injured in Muscatine County Car Accident

Three people were hospitalized after a driver ran a stop sign on Highway 38
Chrystelle Delong, 58, of Muscatine, and two passengers were injured in a two-vehicle car accident at the corner of Highway 38 and 155th Street in Muscatine County, Iowa, on April 13, according to the Iowa State Patrol.
The collision occurred when an eastbound Nissan Pathfinder failed to stop at a posted sign and struck a northbound Hyundai Santa Fe, investigators said. First responders called for a medical helicopter to airlift one of the victims from the scene.
Emergency personnel flew the driver of the Hyundai, Delong, to the University of Iowa Hospital for treatment. Two other women, ages 27 and 37, were taken by ambulance to Trinity Muscatine with undisclosed injuries.
The 67-year-old driver of the Nissan was not transported to a hospital. Troopers have not announced any citations as the investigation continues.
Multiple agencies, including the Muscatine County Sheriff's Office and Wilton Fire Department, assisted at the crash scene.
Why did the Nissan fail to stop at 155th Street?
Investigators will examine road conditions, visibility, and driver distraction to determine why the eastbound vehicle entered the intersection without yielding.
National Legal Analyst Stefano Formica, Of Bond Legal, noted that "Intersection car accidents often require a thorough reconstruction to establish right-of-way violations and line-of-sight issues. Investigators look closely at skid marks, vehicle data recorders, and signage visibility to build a clear picture of the moments before impact."
According to the Federal Highway Administration, more than 50% of the combined total of fatal and injury crashes nationwide occur at or near intersections.
What are the next steps for the injured victims?
The victims recovering from this collision face mounting medical bills, especially given the need for an emergency airlift to a trauma center.
National Legal Analyst Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal, noted that "Victims of severe car accidents frequently deal with complex insurance claims while trying to heal. A dedicated legal advocate can help protect their rights and manage communications with adjusters, ensuring that long-term medical needs are fully documented."
The Iowa State Patrol continues to finalize its crash report. Individuals involved in car accidents may have legal options. Consulting a personal injury attorney can help clarify rights and potential claims.
Iowa personal injury law
Injured parties have up to two years from the date of the crash to file a civil lawsuit under the state's statute of limitations. Compensation in these cases typically covers emergency medical transport, hospital stays, lost wages, and ongoing rehabilitation costs.
