Danika Bills Injured in Ocean Shores Bicycle Accident

The 23-year-old cyclist was transported to Harbor Regional Health following the collision with a patrol vehicle
Danika Bills, 23, of Ocean Shores, was injured in a bicycle accident involving a police vehicle at the corner of Ensign Avenue Northwest and Pacific Boulevard Northwest in Ocean Shores on Friday, according to the Washington State Patrol.
Troopers are leading the ongoing inquiry into the afternoon collision. Preliminary findings indicate the cyclist entered the intersection and was struck by a fully marked patrol vehicle driven by an on-duty officer.
Paramedics transported Bills to Harbor Regional Health in Aberdeen for treatment. Her current condition was not immediately released.
The Ocean Shores Police Department acknowledged the collision in a public statement, asking residents to allow the investigative process to unfold. No further details have been provided as the investigation continues.
Incidents involving law enforcement vehicles often generate strong community reactions and leave injured individuals searching for a clear path forward. A full review of the intersection and the patrol vehicle's speed is necessary to understand what led to the crash.
"Having the proper resources is extremely important when investigating a bicycle accident case and demonstrating that there was negligence on the part of another party," said Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal.
Even when initial citations are issued, a deeper look at the collision mechanics can reveal shared liability. Investigators will likely examine the patrol SUV's dashcam footage, event data recorders, and the officer's actions leading up to the crash. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 1,166 pedalcyclists were killed in U.S. traffic collisions in 2023, and an estimated 49,989 were injured.
Collisions involving municipal or commercial fleet vehicles introduce complex layers of oversight and liability.
"Insurance companies often try to pressure victims to settle for a quick payout for far less than the case is worth," said Stefano Formica, Of Bond Legal "However, an attorney will vigorously advocate for their client to ensure they are treated respectfully and compensated fairly."
Washington follows a pure comparative fault system. The statute of limitations is generally three years.
Damages include economic and non-economic losses.
"Bicyclists lack the protection of an enclosed vehicle, making them particularly vulnerable in collisions," noted Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal. "It is vital to properly evaluate these cases to protect the rights of the injured."
