Davidson Torres-Suarez Killed in Hollis Hills Car Accident

A 30-year-old woman and a 5-year-old boy were also injured when a speeding driver rear-ended their vehicle at a red light
Davidson Torres-Suarez, 28, of Bellerose, was killed in a car accident on Bell Boulevard at 86th Avenue in Hollis Hills, New York, on April 24, according to the NYPD.
A southbound 2008 Audi TT Coupe slammed into the back of a 2005 Toyota Corolla that was stopped at a red light just before 9:30 p.m. The impact pushed the Audi further south before it struck a light pole. Investigators believe speed played a factor.
Paramedics extricated the driver of the Toyota and rushed him to North Shore University Hospital, where he died. A 30-year-old woman and a 5-year-old boy riding in the Toyota were taken to the same hospital in stable condition.
The 65-year-old driver of the Audi was not hurt and remained at the scene. No immediate charges were filed. The Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad continues to review the crash.
Why did the Audi fail to stop on Bell Boulevard?
While the NYPD investigates the role of speed in the fatal rear-end collision, families of victims often face immediate challenges securing evidence. National Legal Analyst Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal. "A skilled attorney can protect victims from trucking companies, which often send their own investigators to crash sites and possess a variety of resources they can utilize to defend a negligent truck driver. Your lawyer can advocate for you by hiring expert witnesses, conducting driver background checks, locating witnesses to the crash, and reviewing applicable insurance coverage, while carefully guiding a victim through the legal process."
New York City recorded 205 traffic deaths in 2025, marking a 19 percent decline from the previous year, according to the New York City Department of Transportation. Despite this overall improvement, motor vehicle passengers still face significant risks at signalized intersections.
How do investigators establish liability in Queens rear-end crashes?
In car accidents such as this, establishing the exact sequence of events leading up to the impact is critical for surviving family members. National Legal Analyst Stefano Formica, Of Counsel at Bond Legal. "Determining who is the at-fault party in an auto collision means identifying if a motorist acted carelessly or negligently, Oftentimes, it is clear who the responsible driver is following an accident. However, sometimes it can be difficult to identify who may have caused it."
The Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad will likely review traffic camera footage, vehicle event data recorders, and physical evidence at the intersection to determine how fast the Audi was driving before the impact.
New York wrongful death statute
Under N.Y. EPTL § 5-4.1, surviving family members may file a wrongful death action. New York applies pure comparative fault. The statute of limitations is 2 years from the date of death.
Recoverable damages may include loss of financial support, loss of parental guidance, funeral expenses, and the decedent's conscious pain and suffering.
