Davidson Torres-Suarez Killed in Hollis Hills Car Accident

Davidson Torres-Suarez car accident on Bell Boulevard, Hollis Hills, New York

A 30-year-old woman and a 5-year-old boy were also injured when a speeding driver slammed into their vehicle at a red light

Davidson Torres-Suarez, 28, of Bellerose, was killed in a car accident on Bell Boulevard at 86th Avenue in Hollis Hills, New York, on April 24, according to the NYPD.

A southbound 2008 Audi TT Coupe slammed into a 2005 Toyota Corolla that was stopped at a red light just before 9:30 p.m. The Audi continued further south on Bell Boulevard before it struck a light pole.

Investigators believe speed played a factor. Paramedics extricated the 28-year-old from the Toyota and rushed him to North Shore University Hospital, where he died.

A 30-year-old woman and a 5-year-old boy riding in the vehicle were taken to the same hospital in stable condition.

The 65-year-old driver of the Audi was not hurt and remained at the scene. No immediate charges were filed while the Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad continues to review the crash.

While the NYPD investigates the role of speed in the fatal collision, families of victims often face immediate challenges securing evidence. Establishing the exact sequence of events leading up to the impact is critical for surviving family members.

"In fatal collisions where speed is suspected, investigators rely heavily on vehicle data recorders and physical intersection evidence to determine exactly what led to the crash. Securing this data early is critical to understanding the sequence of events before impact," said National Legal Analyst Candice Bond.

"Furthermore, intersection crashes often involve complex liability issues where sightlines, signal timing, and witness accounts must be meticulously cross-referenced with physical evidence," added National Legal Analyst Stefano Formica.

The Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad will likely review traffic camera footage, vehicle event data recorders, and physical evidence at the intersection to determine how fast the Audi was driving before the impact.

Under N.Y. EPTL § 5-4.1, surviving family members may file a wrongful death action. New York applies pure comparative fault. The statute of limitations is 2 years from the date of death.

Recoverable damages may include loss of financial support, loss of parental guidance, funeral expenses, and the decedent's conscious pain and suffering.
