What Happened in the Eagle Point Bicycle Crash

Estrada needed emergency brain surgery to treat a hematoma after the crash. She volunteers with local law enforcement. The Medford Police Department said she has spent two years volunteering, both at the Rogue Valley Girls Camp and for other agencies.

Help for people affected by a crash is below.

Family Fundraiser Supports Long Recovery Ahead

According to the Medford Police Department, Estrada's family is accepting donations online as she faces a lengthy recovery. Her donations page says she is now awake and can breathe without help. It says she can move a little and answer questions by nodding, and she is working toward standing up. No charges have been announced.

Affected by an accident like this?

Here is what people in Oregon usually need, in the order it comes up.

  1. Emergency care. Emergency rooms must check and stabilize you, even if you can't pay. The bill comes later.

  2. Your belongings. A damaged bike, phone, or clothes can be part of what insurance pays for.

  3. Crash report. The crash report is usually ready a few weeks after the crash, and you can still get it later.

  4. Hospital bills. Most hospitals have a program that cuts bills for people with low income, and you can apply months after the first bill.

  5. Insurance offer. You can turn down the insurer's first offer and ask for more.
