The 69-year-old Chicago woman died following a multi-vehicle wreck on I-57
Elease Tolar, 69, of Chicago, was killed in a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 57 near Ludlow, Illinois, early Friday, according to the State Police.
The overnight collision involved a semi-truck and a passenger car traveling along the interstate corridor. Paramedics arrived at the scene shortly after the 12:44 a.m. wreck to secure the area and treat the passengers. Tolar, who was riding in the car, was taken to Carle Foundation Hospital for treatment of critical injuries. She was pronounced dead by the Champaign County Coroner's Office at 7:03 a.m.
Troopers are working to determine the sequence of events that led to the pileup. No citations or charges have been announced as the investigation continues.
According to the Illinois Department of Transportation, the state recorded 1,147 fatal crashes in 2022.
