Madison Burton Killed in Dix Three-Vehicle Accident
The 25-year-old was waiting on the shoulder of I-57 when a pickup truck and semi collided with her disabled vehicle
Madison Burton, 25, of Odin, was killed in a three-vehicle crash on Interstate 57 south of Dix on Aug. 10, according to State Police.
Paramedics rushed Burton to Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon, where she was pronounced dead by Jefferson County Coroner Roger Hayse.
The pickup truck had left the travel lanes and struck Burton's disabled car while she was waiting on the shoulder for help with a flat tire. Investigators confirmed a semi-truck was also involved in the collision. The exact sequence of impacts between the pickup, the semi-truck, and the stationary vehicle remains under review.
State Police are investigating the fatal wreck.
No charges have been announced.

Under 740 ILCS 180, surviving family members may file a wrongful death action. Illinois applies modified comparative fault (50% bar). The statute of limitations is 2 years from the date of death.
