A northbound 2023 Chevrolet Malibu carrying five teenagers ran off the road around 11:05 p.m., struck a tree and overturned. Paramedics transported the passengers to a local hospital for treatment.

The 16-year-old passenger was pronounced dead at the facility by the Scott County coroner. The 19-year-old driver and three other teenage passengers, ages 14, 15 and 17, suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Fellow students and loved ones are mourning the loss of the high schooler as troopers continue to investigate the cause of the wreck. No charges have been announced.

The crash remains under investigation by the Highway Patrol.
