Jing Wang Killed in Kew Gardens Hills Pedestrian Accident
The 61-year-old woman was struck by a turning vehicle just blocks from her home
Jing Wang, 61, of Kew Gardens Hills, was killed in a pedestrian crash on Union Turnpike at Main Street in Kew Gardens Hills, New York, on Aug. 25, according to the NYPD.
A southbound 2010 Honda Civic making a left turn struck the woman as she crossed the street from south to north just before 8 a.m. The impact threw her onto the road. Paramedics rushed Wang to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center with severe head trauma. She was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
The 56-year-old driver remained at the scene and was not injured. The NYPD Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad is handling the ongoing inquiry, and no arrests have been made.
The fatal collision occurred just blocks from where the victim lived at the Village Mall at Hillcrest Condominiums.
According to the New York State Department of Health, approximately 300 pedestrian fatalities occur each year statewide.

Investigators will examine the intersection's signal timing, the driver's speed, and visibility conditions at the time of the left turn. Left-turn collisions frequently occur when drivers focus on oncoming vehicular traffic rather than scanning the crosswalk for pedestrians who have the right of way.
New York wrongful death statute
Under N.Y. EPTL § 5-4.1, surviving family members may file a wrongful death action. New York applies pure comparative fault. The statute of limitations is 2 years from the date of death.
Recoverable damages may include loss of financial support, loss of parental guidance, funeral expenses, and the decedent's conscious pain and suffering.
