John Aguilar Killed in Visalia Hit-and-Run Accident
Suspect arrested following deadly bicycle collision near Dinuba Boulevard
John Aguilar, 63, of Woodlake, was killed in a hit-and-run crash near Ferguson Avenue and Dinuba Boulevard in Visalia, California, on Sunday, according to the Visalia Police Department.
Antonio Gaona Vasquez, 32, was arrested Wednesday in the 200 block of Perez Street. He was booked into the Tulare County Adult Pre-Trial Facility on suspicion of felony hit-and-run resulting in death. The driver fled the scene. Officers arrived at 7:48 p.m. to find the bicyclist, Aguilar, lying in the road, where he was pronounced dead.
Investigators used automated license plate readers and surveillance footage to track a maroon Honda sedan. The vehicle showed damage to the passenger side of the windshield and hood.
The crash remains under investigation.
There were 1,103 pedalcyclist fatalities nationwide in 2024, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), a 6% decrease from the previous year.
