Jonathan Tellez-Sosa Killed in Palmview Car Accident

Wrong-way driver, passenger also killed in Friday night collision on Texan Road
Jonathan Tellez-Sosz, a 25-year-old Penitas resident, was killed Friday night when a wrong-way driver struck his car head-on along Texan Road in Palmview, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
Troopers and paramedics responded to the scene at approximately 9:26 p.m. Investigators determined a northbound silver sedan was driving on the wrong side of the road when it slammed into Tellez-Sosa’s southbound blue Ford Fusion. Tellez-Sosa was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger in his vehicle was rushed to McAllen Medical Center and remains in critical condition.
The driver of the wrong-way sedan was taken to the hospital, where he died from his injuries on Monday, the department said. A passenger in the wrong-way vehicle was also killed in the collision.
The crash remains under investigation.
What is the investigation status of the Palmview head-on crash?
As DPS troopers continue to piece together why the northbound vehicle entered opposing traffic lanes, families of victims like Tellez-Sosa are left navigating the sudden aftermath of a fatal collision.
In head-on car accidents such as this, independent investigations often run parallel to law enforcement efforts to preserve critical evidence.
Candice Bond, managing partner at Bond Legal, said, "Crossover crashes happen in a heartbeat, often when a vehicle drifts across a center line because of fatigue, distraction, or a mechanical failure nobody saw coming. Direct frontal impact tends to cause injuries far more severe than most roadway collisions."
"Legal counsel steps into that chaos to review skid marks and weather conditions while protecting surviving families from early pressure," added Bond, who is also a national legal analyst for Accident News.
The incident adds to the ongoing toll across the state. TxDOT reported 4,150 traffic deaths in 2024 (a 3.29% decrease from 4,291 in 2023), with single-vehicle run-off-the-road crashes remaining a major concern.
Texas wrongful death statute
Under Tex. Civ. Prac. & Rem. Code § 71.001, surviving family members may file a wrongful death action. Texas applies modified comparative fault (51% bar). The statute of limitations is 2 years.
Recoverable damages may include loss of financial support, loss of companionship and consortium, funeral expenses, and mental anguish.
"Investigating a fatal head-on collision on a two-lane road involves looking closely at roadway conditions, lane markings, and lighting levels near the scene. Sometimes faded center lines, missing warning signs, or dangerous drop-offs force a car into oncoming traffic," said Stefano Formica, of counsel at Bond Legal.
Formica, who is also a national legal analyst for Accident News, noted, "Legal counsel assists grieving families by documenting physical road defects and exploring whether municipal entities share responsibility for the tragedy."
