Demond Hunter, 35, was booked into jail on suspicion of driving under the influence and felony hit-and-run. Investigators tracked a white Honda minivan with hood damage to a location north of the city limits using real-time camera data and prior service calls.

The collision happened around 8:45 p.m. as a pedestrian walked northbound on the east sidewalk near the Crossings at Elk Grove Apartments. The minivan exited a driveway, struck the man, and fled the scene.

The driver kept going. Officers said the fleeing minivan ran a red light at Brown Road, narrowly missing a second person in a crosswalk.

Paramedics rushed Diosdado to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. He died on Wednesday.

Additional charges against the suspect may be sought as the investigation continues.

The identification of a suspect in a hit-and-run often relies on a combination of digital evidence and community reporting. While the criminal justice system pursues accountability for the DUI and fleeing charges, parallel civil investigations focus on the mechanics of the collision.

Candice Bond, managing partner at Bond Legal, said, said, "Every hit-and-run is a choice, with a driver fleeing instead of taking responsibility. Investigators often connect suspects to a crash through witness accounts, digital records, and electronic data."

Legal counsel can simultaneously evaluate uninsured motorist coverage, preserving financial options for affected families while investigators work to identify a responsible driver through available digital and forensic evidence, added Bond, who is also a national legal analyst for Accident News.

How did investigators track the fleeing minivan in Elk Grove?

"After a hit-and-run, families face sudden medical bills, lost income, and grief. Attorneys review insurance policies, uncover compensation, and fight to ensure recovery reflects the true economic impact," noted Stefano Formica, a national legal analyst for Accident News and of counsel at Bond Legal.

What are the legal implications of a DUI hit-and-run arrest?

California wrongful death statute

Recoverable damages may include loss of financial support, loss of companionship, funeral expenses, and the decedent's pre-death pain and suffering.
