What Happened on Stelzer Road

Columbus police were sent to Stelzer Road and Towne Center Boulevard at about 6:50 a.m. after a call about a pedestrian being hit. A Columbus Division of Fire battalion chief said the juvenile went to Nationwide Children's Hospital. The dispatcher said the juvenile was first taken in critical condition and is now described as stable. The vehicle stayed at the scene.

Help for people affected by a crash is below.

Where the Columbus Police Response Stands

Police closed Stelzer Road in both directions at Towne Center Boulevard. No charges have been announced, and officials have not released the juvenile's name or the driver's name.

Vehicles from a serious crash are often towed to a secure lot and held for inspection. That is a standard step, and the vehicles can be held for weeks.

Affected by an accident like this?

Here is what people in Ohio usually need, in the order it comes up.

  1. Emergency care. Emergency rooms must check and stabilize you, even if you can't pay. The bill comes later.

  2. Your belongings. A damaged bike, phone, or clothes can be part of what insurance pays for.

  3. Crash report. The crash report is usually ready a few weeks after the crash, and you can still get it later.

  4. Hospital bills. Most hospitals have a program that cuts bills for people with low income, and you can apply months after the first bill.

  5. Insurance offer. You can turn down the insurer's first offer and ask for more.
