Love Icelyn Dixon, 17, of Bakersfield, was killed in a hit-and-run crash on Union Avenue on July 18, according to the Bakersfield Police Department.
Officers arriving at the 3600 block found the teenager down in the road with severe injuries. Paramedics rushed her to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
A preliminary investigation revealed the girl had just exited a vehicle stopped in the northbound number one lane. A second vehicle traveling north in the adjacent lane struck her and fled the scene without stopping. Investigators do not believe speed played a role in the collision. Authorities are still working to determine if alcohol was a factor and are searching for the driver who left the area.
