The collision occurred at approximately 3:20 a.m. when an eastbound vehicle struck a person walking near the travel lanes from behind. The driver continued traveling east without stopping to render aid or report the collision.

Paramedics transported Angel to MultiCare Memorial Hospital in Yakima for treatment of severe injuries.

Detectives recovered evidence at the scene indicating the suspect vehicle is a 2020 to 2025 Ford F-Series pickup truck. The vehicle likely sustained damage to its front or driver's side, including a broken driver's side tow mirror.

Troopers are asking anyone who witnessed the collision or saw someone walking on the freeway to contact investigators.

The sudden trauma of a hit-and-run collision leaves victims like Vazquez Del Angel facing severe physical injuries and mounting medical bills while investigators work to identify the fleeing driver.

Candice Bond, managing partner at Bond Legal, said, "When a driver flees after a serious collision, injured victims face compounding challenges because the responsible party may never face identification while medical bills accumulate and recovery timelines remain uncertain."

"An attorney works to preserve physical evidence, coordinate forensic analysis of available materials, and navigate complex insurance questions to ensure injured victims receive fair compensation for medical expenses, lost wages, and rehabilitation costs," added Bond, who is also a national legal analyst for Accident News.

What evidence was left at the Union Gap crash scene?

Investigators rely heavily on physical debris left behind when a driver flees. In this case, vehicle parts recovered from the interstate allowed detectives to narrow the search to a specific make, model, and year range of a Ford pickup truck.

How do hit-and-run investigations progress?

When a suspect remains at large, law enforcement agencies often turn to the public for tips while analyzing nearby traffic cameras and auto body shop repair requests.
