A 46-year-old man died after a vehicle hit him on Brooklyn's Pitkin Avenue early Sunday, according to police. Police said the driver did not stay at the scene. The man's name has not been released.
The Early Sunday Crash on Pitkin Avenue
Officers went to the area of Pitkin Avenue and Chestnut Street around 1:03 a.m. after a 911 call reporting that a pedestrian had been hit, police said. The man was lying in the road when an eastbound vehicle on Pitkin Avenue hit him, investigators said. The driver kept going after the crash, police said. He was brought to a hospital nearby by EMS and pronounced dead there.
Where the Police Search for the Driver Stands
Police are holding back the man's name until his family has been told. Investigators have not identified the driver, and no one has been arrested. The investigation remains ongoing. Police are asking anyone with information to reach Crime Stoppers by phone, online, by text or through the NYPD Crime Stoppers app.
In a hit-and-run, the first weeks are usually about finding the vehicle. Tips and home camera video from neighbors often matter most.

Here is what families in New York usually need, in the order it comes up.
Death certificates. The funeral home or the family can order them, and banks and insurers each usually want a copy.
Crash report. The crash report is usually ready a few weeks after the crash, and you can still get it later.
Funeral costs. Every state has a victim fund that pays funeral costs after some crashes, and the fund decides who qualifies.
Survivor payments. If the person who died had worked, their spouse or children may get monthly Social Security payments. Applying early matters.
Insurance offer. You can turn down the insurer's first offer and ask for more.
