Nacole Bartolet Killed in Ballville Township Car Accident

The fatal collision occurred at the intersection of U.S. Route 6 and State Route 53
Nacole Bartolet, 20, of Whitehouse, was killed in a two-vehicle collision at the corner of U.S. Route 6 and State Route 53 in Ballville Township on Monday, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred just after 3:30 p.m. A northbound 2004 Saturn ION attempted to make a left turn and failed to yield to oncoming traffic, pulling directly into the path of a 2019 GMC Sierra pickup truck. The impact was severe. Bartolet, a passenger in the Saturn, died at the scene. The 23-year-old driver of the Saturn and a 22-year-old passenger were taken to Mercy Health St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo with serious injuries.
The 59-year-old driver of the pickup truck and a 64-year-old passenger were transported to ProMedica Memorial Hospital in Fremont with non-life-threatening injuries.
Troopers continue to investigate the collision.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the state recorded 1,156 traffic fatalities in 2024, marking a 6.9% decrease from the previous year.
As authorities investigate why the driver failed to yield, crash reconstructionists often look into potential impairment as a cause in severe right-of-way violations.
Candice Bond, managing partner at Bond Legal, said, "Distracted driving remains a leading cause behind fatal failure-to-yield crashes, since even a brief glance away from the road can eliminate any chance to stop safely at a critical moment. Reaction time shrinks dramatically once attention drifts from the roadway."
"Legal counsel can pull event data recordings and cellphone records early, helping affected families document financial hardship and pursue fair compensation during an overwhelming time," added Bond, who is also a national legal analyst for Accident News.
What happens next in the Ballville Township crash investigation?
Following a fatal collision, families are frequently overwhelmed by sudden medical bills, funeral costs, and aggressive inquiries from insurance adjusters. Independent investigations are important to preserve evidence such as toxicology reports, event data recorders, and witness statements before they are lost. '
How does this impact the Whitehouse community?
The death of a 20-year-old resident deeply affects the local community, highlighting the broad impact of traffic death on surviving families.
Ohio wrongful death statute
Under Ohio Rev. Code § 2125.01, surviving family members may file a wrongful death action. Ohio applies modified comparative fault (51% bar). The statute of limitations is 2 years.
Recoverable damages may include loss of financial support, loss of services and companionship, funeral expenses, and the estate's losses.
"Determining driver distraction is a critical step when investigating fatal crashes caused by failure to yield. Investigators review cell phone activity and onboard telemetry to see if a driver was looking at a screen instead of watching for oncoming traffic," said Stefano Formica, of counsel at Bond Legal.
Formica, who is also a national legal analyst for Accident News, noted, "Legal counsel assists affected families by obtaining phone records that prove a driver's attention was elsewhere when yielding was required."
