Nelson Borja-Ramos Killed in Los Angeles Car Accident

Multi-vehicle accident on eastbound I-10 near Crenshaw Boulevard
Nelson Borja-Ramos, 23, died in a multi-vehicle car accident on the Interstate 10 freeway just east of Crenshaw Boulevard in South Los Angeles on Sunday at about 5 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.
The collision involved three vehicles and left significant debris across the No. 1, 2, 3, and 4 lanes. These lanes were closed for several hours while the No. 5 lane remained open.
Borja-Ramos died of blunt force injuries in the crash, the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
All traffic lanes on the eastbound freeway were reopened by 9:30 a.m. Sunday. The California Highway Patrol is investigating the incident.
An investigation into the crash is ongoing. Attorneys will examine all factors, including road conditions, driver behavior, and vehicle maintenance, to determine liability. This comprehensive approach ensures that all responsible parties are identified. An attorney comments, "In fatal car accidents, piecing together what happened is critical for the victim's family. We meticulously review police reports, witness statements, and any available dashcam or surveillance footage. Our goal is to advocate for justice and ensure that the family receives the support they need during an incredibly difficult time."
Under Cal. Code Civ. Proc. § 377.60, surviving family members may file a wrongful death action. California applies pure comparative fault.
The statute of limitations is 2 years from the date of death. Recoverable damages may include loss of financial support, loss of consortium, funeral expenses, and the decedent's pre-death pain and suffering.
