Nuriddin Soliev Killed in North Hills Truck Accident

The 31-year-old succumbed to his injuries days after a tractor-trailer rear-ended a car on the Long Island Expressway
Nuriddin Soliev, 31, of Glendale, died Monday from injuries suffered in a crash on the Long Island Expressway near exit 34 in North Hills, New York, on May 29, according to the Nassau County Police Department.
A westbound 2011 Mack tractor-trailer rear-ended a 2023 Honda Civic at approximately 11:38 p.m. Friday. The truck driver, a 53-year-old man, was not injured in the collision.
Soliev, who was a passenger in the Honda, was taken to a local hospital in critical condition before a physician pronounced him dead three days later.
Paramedics also transported the 32-year-old driver of the car and a 33-year-old passenger for treatment of minor injuries.
The crash remains under investigation by detectives. No charges have been announced.
According to the National Safety Council, 5,340 people died in large-truck crashes nationwide in 2024.
The loss of a loved one in a commercial vehicle collision leaves families facing immense grief and complex questions about liability. While authorities continue to investigate the circumstances of the rear-end crash, independent investigations are often necessary to preserve critical evidence.
"Liability in a rear-end commercial truck collision rarely falls on a single party, because the carrier, the driver, maintenance contractors, and cargo handlers each bear responsibility depending on what evidence reveals," said Candice Bond, managing partner at Bond Legal.
Bond added, "Surviving relatives navigating that complexity deserve an attorney who understands how to examine every link in the chain and identify where accountability truly rests."
Why do rear-end truck collisions occur on the Long Island Expressway?
Commercial trucks require significantly longer stopping distances than passenger vehicles, making following distance and driver attention critical factors on busy corridors like the Long Island Expressway. Investigators will likely examine the truck driver's hours-of-service logs and the vehicle's electronic data recorder to determine what led to the impact.
"Driver fatigue remains one of the most difficult factors to detect after a fatal commercial truck crash, because exhaustion leaves no visible mark. Federal rules limit consecutive driving hours, but violations do occur, and those violations matter enormously," explained Stefano Formica, a national legal analyst for Accident News and of counsel at Bond Legal.
"A legal team can move quickly to obtain electronic logging device data before that information becomes unavailable," noted Formica.
What are the legal options for families after a fatal commercial crash?
Families of deceased passengers often face immediate financial burdens alongside their emotional loss. Navigating the claims process with commercial freight carriers requires a thorough understanding of federal trucking regulations and corporate liability structures. Individuals involved in commercial truck accidents may have legal options. Consulting a personal injury attorney can help clarify rights and potential claims.
New York wrongful death statute
Under N.Y. EPTL § 5-4.1, surviving family members may file a wrongful death action. New York applies pure comparative fault. The statute of limitations is 2 years from the date of death.
Recoverable damages may include loss of financial support, loss of parental guidance, funeral expenses, and the decedent's conscious pain and suffering.
