What Happened on North H Street in Lompoc

Lompoc fire and police personnel responded to the 2000 block of North H Street at about 9:15 p.m. for a report that a vehicle had hit a pedestrian, Morgan said. The pedestrian was struck by at least one vehicle, a white Chevrolet sedan, according to emergency dispatch reports. Emergency crews gave him aid before he was taken to the hospital. The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with officers, Morgan said.

Lompoc Police Investigating the Crash

The circumstances of the collision remain under investigation by the Lompoc Police Department, Morgan said. The southbound lanes of H Street near the Wye intersection at the north end of Lompoc were closed for a short time Monday. Officers asked either Santa Barbara County Sheriff's deputies or California Highway Patrol officers to help with traffic control. Additional information was not immediately available.

Investigators often ask nearby homes and businesses for camera video soon after a crash. Many systems record over old footage after a few days or weeks, so they move fast.

Lost someone in a crash like this?

Here is what families in California usually need, in the order it comes up.

  1. Death certificates. The funeral home or the family can order them, and banks and insurers each usually want a copy.

  2. Crash report. The crash report is usually ready a few weeks after the crash, and you can still get it later.

  3. Funeral costs. Every state has a victim fund that pays funeral costs after some crashes, and the fund decides who qualifies.

  4. Survivor payments. If the person who died had worked, their spouse or children may get monthly Social Security payments. Applying early matters.

  5. Insurance offer. You can turn down the insurer's first offer and ask for more.
