What caused the collision at Illinois 13 and Carrier Mills Road?
Losing a loved one in a sudden crash leaves families and the surrounding community searching for answers. While the cause and liability of a crash are being investigated, it is important that a competent attorney handles investigations into cases such as this to ensure the rights of the victim's family are protected.
Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal, noted that "When I hear about a truck losing control, it's a heartbreaking reminder of how much power these rigs have. Daily inspection logs are legally required, yet missing entries frequently tell the story of a mechanical failure."
According to the Illinois Department of Transportation, the state recorded 139 deaths from semi-truck crashes in 2024. Large trucks contribute disproportionately to severe and fatal accidents due to their size and weight.
How do investigators analyze commercial vehicle crashes?
Investigators will look at electronic logging devices, maintenance records, and skid marks at the intersection to determine exactly what happened. Insurance adjusters often contact grieving families within days of a fatal crash, before the full extent of the investigation is complete.
Formica, Of Bond Legal, noted that "No one should have to say goodbye to a loved one because of a preventable trucking error. Most people don't know that an eighty-thousand-pound truck needs nearly two football fields of distance to come to a complete stop."
Under Illinois law, individuals injured or families who have lost a loved one due to another party's negligence may be entitled to seek compensation for medical expenses, funeral costs, and loss of companionship.
