Early morning collision between log truck and passenger van leaves one dead

A person was killed in a motor vehicle crash at the corner of Mount Pleasant Road and Barnett Cutoff Road in Zachary, Louisiana, early Tuesday, according to police.

The 5:45 a.m. collision involved an 18-wheeler carrying logs and a passenger van. The wreckage blocked the intersection for several hours before crews moved the vehicles to the shoulder.

Baton Rouge EMS and the East Baton Rouge Parish Coroner's Office responded to the scene.

The victim was pronounced dead following the crash. Authorities have not released the identity of the person who died, pending notification of family members.

Louisiana State Police are assisting local officers with the ongoing investigation. the road reopened to traffic at approximately 10:25 a.m.
